What Kind Of Life Do You Want In This Season?

The last few years have been wild. This is about to be something new.

I love the start of a new season.

I love the feeling of possibility which hangs in the air. The pages turn, the previous chapter is laid to rest, and you have no idea what story is about to be told. The start of a season is like magic. In the same way the beginning of a semester or meeting coworkers for the first time — the world feels ripe with opportunity in these moments in a way words can’t quite manage to capture.

At some level, it also feels like a fresh chance to do something different. Something else. Every day is brimming with the prospect of new choices, but watching Spring flowers bloom with a regal explosion of color or in Fall catching a parading gust of leaves parachuting away from their home brings with it an acute awareness; what has happened before is settled history and what is to come is filled with the wonder of the unknown.

To say it another way, we know what yesterday and all the days before were like. We remember those seasons of joy, those pangs of remorse, the triumphs we held high, the ache of the scars we carry, and all the rest held close in our hearts and minds. But, we don’t know what is to come, and the not knowing stirs something in us — a familiar hope springs up in our most honest places.
