What Kind Of Life Do You Want In This Season?

The last few years have been wild. This is about to be something new.

I love the start of a new season.

I love the feeling of possibility which hangs in the air. The pages turn, the previous chapter is laid to rest, and you have no idea what story is about to be told. The start of a season is like magic. In the same way the beginning of a semester or meeting coworkers for the first time — the world feels ripe with opportunity in these moments in a way words can’t quite manage to capture.

At some level, it also feels like a fresh chance to do something different. Something else. Every day is brimming with the prospect of new choices, but watching Spring flowers bloom with a regal explosion of color or in Fall catching a parading gust of leaves parachuting away from their home brings with it an acute awareness; what has happened before is settled history and what is to come is filled with the wonder of the unknown.

To say it another way, we know what yesterday and all the days before were like. We remember those seasons of joy, those pangs of remorse, the triumphs we held high, the ache of the scars we carry, and all the rest held close in our hearts and minds. But, we don’t know what is to come, and the not knowing stirs something in us — a familiar hope springs up in our most honest places.

Life could be like *this*.

Maybe things could be different.

What I desire could come to pass.

That which was broken could be made whole.

There is a sense of remaking, of mending and expansion, which comes in this place, isn’t there? The invitation of the new season is akin to standing at a forge to find countless pieces of new metal, discarded ancient shards, and busted bits of junk and being faced with a question:

“What do you want to make next?”

You can make anything you want with your life in this new season. What will it be?

What hopes and desires does your heart hold as the season changes over? What are you wishing will come to be in the rest of 2023? Where is your heart longing for the broken remains of the past to be built into something new for the life you want today? What whispers of the future are captivating your soul and pulling you forward?

My hope for us as we enter this new season of endless possibility is that we fully embrace wonder. That we step into what is to come with open arms and vulnerable hearts to see what needs to be crafted next and act boldly to move toward it.

And more than anything my friend, I hope you enter this place with more joy and peace than you have ever known.
