Let’s get on the same page upfront…this isn’t one of those lists.
You know the ones — the “Best Restaurants in the Live Music Capital” or “Top 10 Spots for Foodies in the Bachelorette Party Hub of the South.” This is merely where I like to eat.
Why write about this? Because I’ve called this city home for nearly 40 years. As an elder millennial with a deep love for exploring every corner of my city, I’ve eaten my way through most of the greasy spoons, hole-in-the-wall gems, and white-tablecloth establishments Austin has to offer. What you’ll find here isn’t about what’s hip, trending, or Instagram-famous. It’s about the places that have stuck with me — the ones I dream about, crave, and come back to time and again.
I’m not here to sell you the new and shiny. In fact, some of the places I’ll mention might even close before you can visit them. Everything changes — that’s life, especially in a city that grows as fast as this one. But what’s here now is worth savoring, because tomorrow it could be gone too.
